CARSON, Calif. — April 27, 2026 — Marco Reus rolled back the years with a clinical brace, powering the LA Galaxy to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake in front of a passionate crowd at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The 36-year-old German veteran opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a moment of pure class. After Real Salt Lake’s Stijn Spierings fouled Galaxy winger Gabriel Pec, Reus stepped up to a 21-yard free kick and curled a breathtaking shot over the wall and into the top-left corner, giving the hosts an early 1-0 lead.
Real Salt Lake refused to go quietly. Deep in first-half stoppage time (45+4′), the visitors leveled the score when a defensive mix-up resulted in an own goal by LA Galaxy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, sending both teams into the break tied at 1-1.
The second half was a tense, end-to-end battle. With the game hanging in the balance, the Galaxy earned a penalty in the 85th minute after Sam Junqua fouled inside the box. Reus stepped forward once more, calmly slotting the spot-kick low into the bottom-left corner to restore the lead at 2-1.
From there, the Galaxy defense stood firm, holding off late pressure to secure all three points and snap a winless streak. Reus was the undisputed man of the match, showcasing the vision, technique, and finishing touch that have made him a fan favorite since arriving in MLS.
