CARSON, Calif. — The LA Galaxy and San Diego FC played to a 2-2 draw Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park, with all four goals coming in a frantic first half.
João Klauss opened the scoring for the Galaxy in the 4th minute, finishing a setup from Sergi Roberto for his ninth goal of the season. San Diego responded quickly. Anders Dreyer equalized from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after Galaxy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski fouled Cédric Bakambu.
The home side regained the lead in the 17th minute when Erik Thommy scored, with assists from Harbor Miller (and involvement from Marco Reus in some accounts). San Diego leveled again before the break as Gabriel Pirani found the net in the 39th minute, capping a four-goal opening period.
Neither team scored in the second half. Marcinkowski made several saves for the Galaxy, while San Diego goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega was busy as well. The Galaxy controlled fewer of the ball (around 31% possession) but managed more shots on target.
The result left the Galaxy with a 10-11-10 record (40 points in most reports) as they continue to battle for playoff positioning in the Western Conference. San Diego (roughly 8-10-12 or similar) extended a winless run.
Looking ahead
The Galaxy’s next match is the highly anticipated El Tráfico against crosstown rivals LAFC next Sunday, October 25, at BMO Stadium.
